Aloha Festivals Begin at Halema`uma`u Crater in Kīlauea

 

The 61st Annual Aloha Festivals began with a gathering at Halema`uma`u in Kīlauea on Hawai`i island for the soemn investiture of the Royal Court. Hula practitioners for Halau O Kekuhi under the direction Nalani Kanaka`ole paid homage to Pele and ho`okupu were offered at the edge of the crater. This ceremony will be followed by a month-long celebration in September of cultural events on all of the islands.
